OMFG SO FREAKIN TIRED IS IT THURSDAY YET.....finished my Illustration course (where I pulled myself up by the skin of my teeth THANKS ANXIETY), and now hopefully I will not bomb in Portfolio (don't think so but just in case I did extra credit work in that course) , Anatomy (also extra credit+studying my ass off for quizzes), or my liberal arts class (unlikely)....
Well, most importantly is Portfolio. I can bomb one class if necessary, just not my major courses. I can live with Academic probation my last semester, seriously.
Yeah, sorry about my quietness lately. I've been going through a rough time in my life. Chalk it up to being a senior this year, about to be tossed into the 'real world' to live however I feel like it. (or rather, how society dictates how I should live it)
I feel better though. I know where I'm going in life....and I will tell my stories to the world. More of my thoughts (and art) coming soon.
Also, I felt like redesigning my blog to match my webpage's layout. Planet Namek was beginning to get boring, and this looks a bit more professional I think.
So I bought a tutorial book to get myself to relearn some 3D Modeling and texturing skills, specifically, Blender, which is a free program that is not that unlike Maya/3DS Max. I want a gaming job, so having you know, recent 3D experience on top of what I'm going to produce this year for Illustration would help my job hunting ALOT.
However, I don't particularly feel like throwing mad dough at Maya...so...Blender. Yeah. The only differences really is that okay, menus in Blender will not be Menus in Maya (the twiddly knobs), but the concepts are the same. Polygon/NURBS modeling. UVs/Textures. Keyframe Graph Editor style animation. Lighting rendering rigging blah blah blahhhhh.
So, today I worked through one of the projects in the 3rd chapter of this book, which was making a Monkey's head move (animate). Granted, I've animated walk cycles and all sorts of stuff in the past, but I don't have them with me at the moment as they're all on my computer at school (which I will have access to in less than a week.). But like I said, interfaces are different between Maya/Blender so I did this to familiarize myself with the differences in Blender.
(also in the process I discovered how to set cameras/lights/render whee probably should have set a texture other than default grey but I didn't feel like it....baby steps)
Tommorrow: I think I finally get to start modeling stuff! WOOOOOOO! (and my brain doesn't hurt that much yet so hopefully it'll go fast...at least until I get to rigging which always makes me want to toss and smash things. X_x)
*goes to go watch Reboot and work through the rest of the chapter*
My website has been updated- I updated my portfolio and redid the galleries so now there are thumbnails. Some galleries are not up yet, but will be soon (either I need to figure out what I'm putting in them, or I need to be back at school with my other computer)! Stay tuned!
Working along on those portraits I made earlier- waiting for soccer, I decided to start coloring one of em. It's going along well....except....
Camo. I swear, there are SO many patterns throughout history that trying to pick the 'best' one is DIFFICULT. Tiger Stripe? (Based off of current USAF ABU) Or a digi camo pattern? HMMMMM. Have to think on this one, curses. lol.
The World Cup starts tomorrow. I'm a huge fan of international soccer, and especially, of the German team, ever since 2002 and Oliver Kahn's amazing performance as their keeper. Had to draw SOMETHING to show my support! YEAH! AUF GEHT'S DEUTSCHLAND! (AKA- LET'S GO GERMANY!)
Felt like sketching a bit before sleep, and apparently Skiis came out (Finally I suppose). Or ideas that could be Skii's final design. Maybe.
Gawd. Compared to all the other characters he carries so much effin GEAR (him and his pointy sword weapons! Also guns but not as many), I had problems figuring out where all of it is arranged so he can actually carry it all AND fight....as noted on the left. X_X. Not sure if I'm happy with that yet either. (The Big-Ass Sword gives me troubles as to how he holsters it...gawd...gonna get cries of "Cloud Strife!" from people I suppose....but I do admit he likes his BAS. =/ )
I'm content with his face/head sketches though. There's enough of his father in there, but also a bit of difference that reflects A) his goddamn cocky aloofness and B)he's not exactly like his father.
In other news, I just bought Boondock Saints II on DVD. I plan on having a marathon of brotherly movies running in the background as I finally get to work on the comic.....
Sorry I've been a little bit quiet, I was busy getting ready and then doing Spokane Comicon, didn't feel like talking much on the internet.
But, the con was yesterday, I had a GREAT time, was fun, got some exposure for my work.
Although, I kinda felt a little bit depressed that I didn't have any actual comic work done for the con. So that's what I'm doing now. I guess. I haven't talked to my friend who I'm quasi-collabing with on "Rebel Forces" for about a month now. I don't know. Kind of don't really care either, it's not like I haven't heard the tales of why that silence was before.....
And I guess I'm sick and tired of waiting, as it seems that all I do in life when I'm not at school.Wait, wait wait and more wait.
Sorry. Sick of it now. Going ahead, I guess it's going to be alone.
I've been a little quiet lately because it was finals week last week- still mentally recovering from it- I had a really bad finals week this semester.
(Namely in that my comics class didn't go so well- so now I'm behind on the work I need done for the con...X_x...)
Meanwhile- have a Matt, as he is in the Prologue and Chapter 1, hopefully coming soon to a con/internet near you. I plan on making this and a menagerie of other things (those Megaman icons I made in Computer ILL, for starters) into stickers to sell at the con.
(hopefully also a mini comic....probably going to be Matt's prologue only though, as I already have most of the pages laid out, just have to tighten the pencils and ink.... but we'll see. *sigh*)
OMG, finals are fastly approaching...so much work to do.
Here's something I'm doing in Illustration class.....blitzing through line art in one day is...um...interesting so long as I draw it, you know, like I normally draw stuff??
Keegan and Matt, supposedly middle age, give or take. Keegan finally loses the demon blood (see further in this blog for that picture- a very flame filled picture of demonic K), and well, loses the cocky attitude and replaces it with a mature, leader type of one. Also loses an eye somewhere along that line. I had fun making his new costume and it's fun to draw a scruffy sort of K (for once)
Unfortunately, through an unfortunate stroke of luck, that demon blood of K's that he loses? Ends up being used against his little brother Matt. Who already had demon blood to begin with, adding his brother's "stock" into it just makes that problem worse, and his "split" takes over. He's...well...an effin bastard, and likes what he is. This drawing is supposedly several months after the switch, and I figure the demonic influence is at least starting to show on Matt. His skin is a tad paler than in previous versions and his skin develops some pretty nasty looking splotches and veins. He's a bit more muscular as well.....which leads into the drawing I made last month of Matt, that's supposedly when all the potential of the demon blood has been unlocked/more training causes Matt to develops some pretty crazy proportions.
I never get tired of drawing these guys. XD Actually made the sketch (grey stuff) during Architecture class, so not bad for no reference aside from that coat+K's boots (sorta). XD
The finished version of Ryusho, guest appearing on a pulp magazine cover of sorts. I like how it turned out but there will be possible edits coming later as crit day is tommorow.....
On a whim and after seeing other people do animation tests...I got the wild idea to try and do my own after...gawd...2 years without active animating or using Flash. FUCK YEA.
Matt sees how foolish I am and will forever LOL me for it. >_>
Follow the picture which is linked to my deviantart where I uploaded it. Yup. Blogger does not support swf natively. Whatever.
I imagine the irezumi Rogue has is probably a visual testament to his high amount of patience....imagine sitting session after session while somebody pokes at you with a needle brush? (traditionally that's how the irezumis are done...by HAND. x_X)
WIP on that pulp cover/Rogue (Ryusho).....still got some to do....obviously the BG and also Rogue's crazy arse irezumi.....but I'm having fun on this. Yup. So it's not so bad.
Computer illustration work/time to goof and conceptualize. I'm supposed to be making a pulp cover. But...he doesn't need to know who this guy is, so why not draw Rogue?
Oh, but there's a good reason why I have yet to draw Rogue without his shirt on. Let me show you the sketch I did on a copy of the original pencil work...probably gonna composite this digitally later on.
Uh huh, yes, I'm insane. Needless to say I am DEFINATELY making a reference flash for this...as well as his back...oh gawd that one is going to be painful (although I already know what's going to be on that one-look up Raijin.)
Also, some random stuff I mostly drew over the weekend while in panels in Seattle at Emerald City Comicon. It felt good to just randomly doodle and some good little things came out......
In particular the doodles of (possible) teenage Matt and K...I like for random on the spot sketchbook stuff. Yup.
A more final of Kenny's turnaround sheet. I had a fairly useful critique as well.
One of the comments mentioned was that they weren't feeling the "retro" about Kenny- as he's supposed to be from the mid 1980's. Something or the other about how 80's clothing is bright and annoying. Well....so I tweaked with the colors a bit and here's the "brighter" version. I dunno. I'm a teensy bit tired from a red eye overnight flight from Seattle (EMERALD CITY COMICON WAS FREAKIN WICKED AWESOME!), so my judgement could be better...lol.
I don't think this is going to affect my connectibility to post here on this blog, but of notable note: I'm going to be in Seattle for the weekend for Emerald City Comicon! My first "Big" Comic Con! (Well...there's also Spokane Comicon which I've been to for the past two years, but unfortunately they're still growing up *MOVE OUTTA THE LAIR, IT WAS CRAMPED THERE LAST YEAR. X_x* and I still consider them a small time con- but thus is life in Spokane, I assure you, working class city, only so so in population compared to well, Portland/Seattle/Vancouver metro areas)
I don't have any official business there aside from checking out small publishers and their guidelines and chilling with comic book nerds, so I hope to have fun there! (I had hoped to have Rebel Forces up and running, but, schoolwork got in my way and there's no way around schoolwork as much as I would have liked to work on webcomics instead. =/ Maybe try to shoot for Spokane Comicon in May? )
(and go hit my favorite spot in Seattle, the International District....Japanese books/stationary....*drool*...Japanese snack food.....*more drool*....SAMURAI NOODLE.....*OMFGDIES*)
On Spring Break, I can draw whatever the eff I want generally, right?
Apparently this is what I decided to draw over the past two nights (when I really should be sleeping- oops). Also- trust me- you want to view this at full rez, the thumb squashes the details somewhat.
So far it's turning out...pretty damn awesome. Why can't ink like this ALL the time??? Also- I kinda miss this version of Matt. Why?
It's really fun drawing muscle-y bastards. *giggle*
But...alas, this version of Matt may or may not appear WAYYYY down the line of the comic plot- at LEAST a couple of years, if not more. Or at all. This is about the point where me and my collab/plot buddy haven't gotten to rewriting yet. (And may not for awhile- I kinda need to focus on the plot we DO have rewritten...you know....not to put the cart before the horse, lol...) Theoretically I'd like to figure out some way to keep this version in but the details are not there yet.
Color.....later. After sleep. X_x More practice+comic, later. Sleeeppppp.
More work on Kenny's turnaround. I totally scrapped the previous shade job and am currently experimenting with textures and such....still working on it though.
Also, OMG, hey, look, I'm sitting here doing nothing in illustration class (because I don't feel like working durr hur hur),so I finished coloring Kamiya and Ryusho.....also, hah, a program called Poladroid gave me a simulated 600 Polaroid frame...lol.
I was routing around on my hard drive on one of my computers...every now and then I find a piece I had completely forgotten I had done.....
I'd say it's like a school photo with the horrid blue background, but these two were homeschooled. Probably they were dragged by their father to some sort of studio because "their mother" wanted it done. Or something like that. LOL.
In Graphic Novels- we have to make sequences of 3 panels, finished and inked of actions...whatever we want. Number one. Apparently two of my characters wanted to come out because I haven't drawn them for awhile.
I have two more to do but not...right now. X_x Also I may do some more cleanup on the inks later but not now.
Good morning. Thanks to the power of coffee (Specifically, freshly ground Evergreen Blend from a fine coffee brewer in Seattle *lub*), I have cats and doodles.
We were supposed to "visually journalize" some sort of thing/event/place....I went to a cat shelter in town with some friends. So I got to draw kitties. Also ink is my friend.
TSUGIWA:
Also, a drawing I sketched one night....Rogue and his brother Kamiya apparently popped out. I may add color later?
I found myself in history of architecture (SNOREEEEE) class drawing...apparently trying to roughly design out a logo...as hopefully EVENTUALLY I'm getting the site up. I swear I REALLY want to, but I've been zooed with school work. X_x
