Presents galore, Part 1

Well, break is almost over here, on Monday I start my second semester as an "aspiring illustrator".....a whole new semester, a whole new set of challenges. Bring it.

I didn't get as much studies done as I would have hoped- unfortunately when it came time to Christmas, my family took up most of my time, and then the other thing that's been cramping my time here has been the MASSIVE amounts of snow that have fallen in my hometown in the Pacific Northwest. First mounds of snow prevented my mother from driving anyplace or even the bus system from running...so no studies of pretty archetecture. I did take some photos though, and hopefully I can do some studies from there?

(Now as I'm leaving, ALL the snow is melting...can we now say, massive flooding of rivers? Thank god I live on a hill.)

However, my life wasn't totally devoid of drawing (buahahaha, I'm an artist, me without drawing=death). I made a few experiments in Gouache as possible gifts to people I know....and I have to say, I like it as a medium. It's got the opaque qualities of acrylic, but yet doesn't have the thick annoying plastic consistancy (HATE-IT KILLS MY BRUSHES), and the subtle blending and opacity control of watercolor which I like. No wonder my painting teacher likes it so much, and it's a quick thing for illustration work, that's for sure.

Anyways, here are two thus far, I'm still working on the last. One of them can be seen a few posts down in the linework as well- note that I had changed a few things with it but I still like the way it turned out.

I think they turned out fairly well, considering beforehand I had only used gouache in painting class on ya know, real life things and not for illustration purposes. I kinda like the way K saluting turned out. =)

The originals are probably disappearing within the next week or two....but I made HQ scans for my future convenience.
