Hack the Planet 21XX style

Hello children. Sup. Time for more stuff out of my sketchbook. Today's entry is one of those random character designs. Well, rather, it was like midnight and I had a drawing ephipany or something.

So yeah. Here we have the beginnings of a character I'm planning on using to develop a RPG me and a couple of other people are fleshing out. I could say I probably had Hackers on the mind when I drew this, like Hackers the movie. Because one, his clothing is kinda 90's...not to mention, rollerblades? You don't see those everyday anymore, unless you like live in some urban city. (Which is what I kinda had in mind anyway.)

And as for his name? I think Xavier "Red" Reddish has a nice ring to it. I actually did know a guy when I was a kid by the last name of Reddish...Rob Reddish. Last I heard of him though he like, moved to Prince Edward Island or some other place around Maine...cuz he loved hockey and of course, Maine is big on that sport.

I'll probably get a character sheet done...eventually. >_>

I fished these images out of the Bay, fresh, to you.

And....I'm back from San Francisco.

And I did draw some while I was there. Not as much as I had hoped, but, oh well, we're not all perfect. So I'll show you what I was up to.

In Union Square, there was a collection of cable cars sitting there. I had bought earlier, when I was in the SOMA (South Of MArket) neighborhood trying to visit the MOMA *Which I never did...bah* and the Cartoon Art Museum (I saw original Winsor McKay drawings, w00t!) , I bought a Canson sketch pad and a couple of Tombow markers in greyscale. So I thought to try them out on this thing. Eh. Not bad. For refrerence I have the original digi pic I had taken before I started drawing....so I can have more fun trying to reproduce the complexity of the cable car later.

(Granted....I don't remember if I was standing up or sitting down when I took this picture, yes, angles and things are off from the sketch but that's fine.)

Then I tested them again later with a simple sketch of my buddy from my comic Moonlit Shadows, Reiner. Yes, I draw him obsessively. You're supposed to do that with your main character and what not I suppose. >_>

And of course I had tons of time to draw nonsense crap. The stuff on the right was me playing around with pose planning with the figure (not very well, mind you, eh), animation on the brain in a restaurant while my mother and a friend she hadn't seen in 6 years talked. And the boat on the left was from the window of a decently fancy (or at least EXPENSIVE) seafood restaurant
on Fisherman's Wharf...a boat. I didn't have a lot of time to do it so it's rather simple and proportions are out of whack. But I wanted to come back to the Wharf the next day, so the next day I got on a BART Train and a MUNI street car (yes, I could have taken the street car to the wharf all the way from Market, but I like BART better because its at least a little less crowded during rush hour.). I walked along the wharf, until I got to a spot I wanted to draw. It was by a little beach and pretty far down that area. And although I didn't put it in the picture...you could see the Golden Gate Bridge from it. Lovely.

I was by the water, and I wanted a quick color medium, so what better thing to use but water color, right?

Eh, I wish A) I had bought a Bulldog clip at the art store I bought the pad from, as the paper was blowing all over the place, screwing up the water color and B) that the sketch paper could have held more water before bleeding as that's why it looks cartoony at places....I eventually got tired of trying to make the water color do what I want so I screwed up some spots (ex, CA mountains are NOT that foresty) and ended up trying to use the gray Tombows and a Micron pent to further develop certain parts (It worked some places, others not.).

(Another thing I saw on Fisherman's Wharf....the largest collection of copies of Phoenix Wright ever in one place aside from a warehouse. 10 copies of the first game for DS just sitting there in a Gamestop on the wharf....and I was thinking as I looked at all of them "Not only did I pay like, twice as much as the 19.99 they're for now, I had to look EVERYWHERE for it...and here are 10 of them just sitting here??? Aw, phooey!". Hmm.)

So that was my trip art wise. But other than that....mmm...I went to Japan Town and bought lots and lots of Japanese manga from Kinokuniya bookstore there, so I'll be busy with those on and off.

And Oh, yes, the vast varieties of Asian food. I will miss that a lot. And oh, look:

The totally wicked awesome, Incredibly intricate plastic Japanese food models restaurants stick to make deciding your choice easier and what not (and they're just fun!). And one of those also increadibly, well, incredibly ANNOYING waving cats. There were like 5559384759 of them I saw in gift shops in not only Japan Town, but even downtown SF. >_>

Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera to Fisherman's Wharf and Japantown, so those experiences I don't have any pictures about *Yes, I'm kicking myself in the arse for it*. Maybe next time as WA isn't too, too far away from CA..and hell....maybe I will go back to that area for a job. I seriously wish I could, because ZOMG, San Francisco. Such a great place. Sure, it's expensive, but the extra money is worth it for the great sights, great things to do, etc, etc.

So I'm back in WA state now, back to my summer...which I'm still trying to find a job. *sigh*. But of course that won't stop me from sketching, so you'll see more stuff here very, very soon.

Laterz.
